The video work Prost Tannhäuser documents in eight acts an increasingly alcohol-fueled interpretation of Richard Wagner‘s Tannhäuser overture. Berlin musician Marco Heise plays the Schuke organ and is recorded by four cameras.
In the first and last acts, he sticks as closely as possible to the composition. The six acts in between are improvisations based on motifs from the “Tannhäuser: Overture.” Between each act, the musician drinks wine and vodka at will. Marco Heise was instructed to improvise his changing state of mind through the medium of music.
