FeuerFeuer consists of two identical sculptures of a campfire, both constructed from wood and left unlit. The work examines the relationship between identity, sameness and being by separating the identical external form of the two fires from the singularity of the event they represent. A fire can be constructed, reproduced and controlled as an object, but it cannot be ignited and burn twice in exactly the same way. The sculptures therefore point to a limit of the idea of controlling nature: the form can be made identical, while the event itself remains irreproducible.
